“Running Rabbit”, the Hood mural is a surreal natural landscape. I wanted the colors to be bold and bright, hoping it would be visible from the Mcgrath Highway for the people stuck in traffic. I was inspired by the design of Corita Kent’s Rainbow Swash gas tank mural on 93 in the bright graphic approach. The mural is painted in latex house paint, influenced by silkscreen effects of overprint transparency with the yellows over the blues making greens and the magenta over blue making purples. One feature of the design is that it makes a 360 loop around the shipping container so the art has no beginning or end.
James Weinberg is a designer, illustrator, and screenprinter out of Somerville MA. With a hands-on approach he creates everything from illustration, brand identity, book jackets, hand silkscreened art, packaging and murals. His work has been featured in Communication Arts, Printed Matters, and Uppercase.
